This townhouse was used from the late Meiji era as a store of Ogawa family who is Japanese Potter. At the time, the main house which was built in the Edo period was connected with Engawa(Japanese balcony). The building has great story such as the important customer for Ogawa family will passed Engawa to main house for business meeting, many Potter craftsmen would live in 2nd floor, the history of this building contains history and culture of Kyoto. After Ogawa family closed their store, this building was renovated partially and had been a rental housing. It once became a vacant house and building was heavily damaged which we decided to do large-scale renovation to bring back the historical Japanese townhouse as Kuraya.
